Warm weather and summer fruit naturally call for cold, refreshing, nutrient-rich breakfast smoothies. I love "building" smoothies. A smoothie is generally defined as a blended, chilled beverage made from fresh or frozen fruit or vegetables pureed with yogurt or milk. Honey, agave nectar, protein powders, nutritional supplements and a variety of teas can also be added. I typically don't add protein powder, I like getting my protein from a shot of raw nuts. Today I blended dark cherries and raspberries, that's it!

It's so simple to assemble, for an antioxidant-rich drink, place 1 cup of pitted fresh cherries and 1 cup of raspberries in a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Serve immediately.
